The historic Eldridge Street Synagogue (1887) is a restored architectural masterpiece in the heart of the Lower East Side. The first grand house of worship built by Eastern European Jewish immigrants in New York, it was beautifully restored after decades of neglect. Its contemporary stained glass rose window, created by artist Kiki Smith in 2010, is a spectacular work dialoguing with the original architecture. Guided tours tell the poignant story of Jewish immigration to New York.
