St. Paul's Chapel is Manhattan's oldest church, built in 1766. Miraculously spared on 9/11 despite being right across from the World Trade Center site, it served as a rest, meal and comfort station for rescue workers for 8 months. The permanent exhibition inside pays tribute to their courage with artifacts, photos and moving testimonies. George Washington prayed here after his inauguration in 1789. Free entry.
